Hi can you take any food in your suitcase that is going in the hold of an aeroplane..ie. cheese bacon etc. I am off to Tenerife in July and with the Euro being weak I was going to take a few bits and pieces with me as the Supermarket near my apartment is astronomical.

Thanks in advance Vikki

Hi Vikki, I think the rules around what you can take with you are more around whether the country allows you bring certain foodstuffs in, rather than what the airline will let you carry, unless of couse it is something hazzardous or dangerous. I have been to tenerife myself many times and have on several occasions taken bacon, cheese etc with me, as you rightly say, english cheese and good bacon cost a fortune there. Given that no customs checks ever appear to exist in Tenerife I don't see you having any problems, package them well in sealed bags and in a container everything should be fine. Things were certainly more tightly controlled when we had foot & mouth in the UK but you shouldn't have a problem now
Yes you can. Might be advisable to put the food in a cool bag with a freeze block to keep it fresh during the journey though.

I know people who have taken meat abroad. They freeze it before hand place it in a cool bag and then transfer it to the freezer on arrival
Get the meat vacuum packed, it will keep perfectly fresh without freezing.
You can also freeze cheese like cheddar.

I know it has nothing really to do with your question, but I think you must mean you get fewer euros for your pounds than before. This is because the pound is weak and the euro is strong, meaning that the same price in euros now amounts to more in pounds and therefore appears to have gone up in price.

Yes I meant the weak pound rather than the Euro....But also the Mercardo sells bacon for 7e cheese for 8e and the european version of Sure (Rexona) deodorant for the equivelant of 5........

This to me amounts to extortion and nothing to do with the strong euro.
