Gas Safety Certificate Survey
2 Answers
Hi,
Could anyone tell me how long a survey should take and what the engineer should be looking for .
The only gas appliances we have are 1 gas fire and a gas hob , the engineer hooked up one of those gas pressure things to the meter to check gas pressure , checked the gas fire for carbon monoxide and lit the hob for a couple of seconds and it took all of ten minutes , it took me longer to move stuff away from the meter for him.Our boiler is behind the gas fire , he didnt even look at that let alone check it , it says on the certificate that the flue was fine , again something he didnt check , we need to know for our own safety. Any help would be greatly appreciated , Thanks in advance

These are mandatory checks on a landlords certificate and he has to tick the certificate to say he`s done this. Want`s reporting and get some one back to do the job properley
agree fully with stevegb, although its not a requirement to service the appliances for a gas safety check we believe that the only way you can be sure the appliance is safe is to service it at the same time. A back boiler and fire take an absolute minimum of 1 hr to strip and service properly and i work as part of a pair, on my own it would be around 90 mins.
even if he wasn't servicing the appliance the fire should have been removed so he could examine and test the boiler and flue liner
you cant service a hob but you are meant to examine the underneath of the hob to see if its been connected properly and if it has an isolation tap or not.
the whole gas supply throught the house is checked for leaks at the meter and at the same time we check to see if the meter is electrically cross-bonded and if any pipework visible is satisfactory i.e. sleeved thru walls etc
