I have a friend in the marines who just went crazy after the bank heist, saying it was PRECISELY how 3 trained armed men would proceed down a street with gunfire coming from both ends.

According to the yanks (who know much more than we do about guns), the scene is hyper-real, and the sounds of gunfire much more true to life than most films. I hear also that DeNiro and Kilmer trained with live ammo and may be using it in the actual footage.

It is also pointed out that the only one with a different gun is Sizemore, who ends up going astray and getting killed.

Shortly after the US release, an exact copy cat of the whole scene was carried out, the kids even delayed it in order to get the same black lightweight bags in...they didn't get away with the money though.
