I have been trying to find cheap railway tickets online from Kosice in Slovakia to Budapest in Hungary, a return ticket for two adults. The only tickets I can find on-line are on Rail Europe which will cost a total of 104. Does anybody know a way of booking cheaper tickets like the advance tickets that we have in Britain? I can't find any other sites that deal with these types of tickets.

Can't help specifically, but have a look at http://www.seat61.com/ for loads of info.
Most European countries only offer relatively small discounts (if any at all) for advance booking. The figure quoted by Rail Europe might be the only fare available.

However it would certainly be worth phoning Rail Europe's main competitor, Deutsche Bahn UK, to see if they can find anything cheaper. (When I ran a railway station we always directed international travellers to Deutsche Bahn UK, who're generally far better than Rail Europe). Their number is 08718 80 80 66 (8p per minute. 0900-2000, Mon-Fri. 0900-1300, Sat & Sun). Alternatively, email them at [email protected]

Or you could contact Slovak Railways directly. Their phone number (from the UK) is 00 421 18188. They can be emailed at [email protected]

did this trip 2 years ago , about 20 and i think this was teturn.buy your tickets in kosice but try and prebook the day before as seat reservations needed. do not bok anywhere else as much more expensive, even if train was full you would still get on 1st class. for timetables usr dbahn.
