If you watch the Apprentice, Sir Alan Sugar keeps saying that he always wants to make a profit. Is that why he has joined Browns team of goodie grabbers?

Champaign Socialists are the worst, Sugar is a prime example.

If he is such a brilliant businessman why is he bothereing with popularist mindless tv for trailer trash?

Probably the very reason you highlight.
"Next Christmas the iPod will be dead, finished, gone, kaput,"
Alan Sugar February 2005

200million ipod sales later, he has joined the Government.
Gromit, good one but this has happened many times. Think IBM/Gates !! Just proves AS dont have a crystal ball. besides the iPod is a bit better qualtity than he is used to.

But then pedalling cr*p, perhaps he will fit in well with Mcbottle.
Have you got a link? What's this story refer to???
Apparently he is now the "enterprise tsar".
Think ALL the MP's are "Goodie Grabbers" not just Labour.

And he is to get a peerage

Lord Sugar of Amstrad
Alan Sugar's been a supporter of Labour for a long time.

Seeing as most of his products are .. er.. low end? I'm sure that parties that aim to put money in the pockets of workers rather than the richest is good for his business.

Or perhaps - and I know you'll not get you head around this concept ymg - perhaps he thinks the intersts of the country as a whole should come before his own personal interests.
I think Brown has started a dangerous precedent. Promoting civilians to become a Lord or Lady does not require any election or by-election to get them there. But then they can assume responsibility for creating policy. Also they step over MPs in the commons as they take the portfolio and there is less scope for promotion. Now Glynis Kinnock is to become European Minister. Sir Alan Sugar has obviously great business experience but who's to say any advice could benefit their own business.
This has to be a joke:

Lord Adonis.......didn't know he was an MP.
Lord Mandelson....didn't know he was an MP
Glenys Kinnock......didn't know she was an MP
Alan Sugar...didn't know he was an MP

Caroline Flint...last night supported GB....man for the job.
Today...resigned.

What is going on?
Brown offered Flint a job but it did not come up to expectations as she wanted to be involved in cabinet discussions and she just had an advisor role. I reckon the downtrodden women will soon set up an executive women's lib if this carries on.

Actually Sugar no longer owns Amstrad - his companies like Viglen and Amscreen don't target consumers but education authorities.

I also don't think his air charter business is targeting the 'low end'
I'd like to wait and see how this appointment works out, at least there's someone there who actually understands business, investments etc, just maybe he's there to keep an eye on Darling.
Perhaps he's just there to say "Gordon - You're Fired!"

I must say I am very disappointed in this news about Alan Sugar.
I had always regarded him as omeone with a sensible head on his shoulders, but obviously not!
As he came from a very working class background I (wrongly) imagined him to be sensible, this proves that he is not.
Wave a peerage at him and he will kowtow to Gordon Brown.
He says the job will enable him to help small businesses.Once he comes up against the Treasury(financial wall) he may change his mind.
Just why does he have to have a seat in the Lords to do the job,why can't he just be an outside advisor?
Sir Alan (to me) you are fired!

Mmm,he is a millionaire and gets a peerage, does anyone else think it smells?
