Blue Sea Things

I have just returned from a holiday in Majorca (Cala Egos) One evening around 7pm these blue jelly fish type creatures (100s of them) washed up on the beach.
I just wondered what they are and why they washed up as there was no really any tide.

Just got back from Menorca and saw the same things. They are Velella vellela,the"by the wind sailor. They've been observed aound our own coasts and California.
There has been hundreds washed up around the cornish coastline.
