Hiya langara,
no I have'nt tried that method. I'm thinking it might result in the texture being too solidified & rubbery? x
I just make the jelly with less water and let it
cool and then spoon it over the flan ..it works
for me ..enjoy

Thanks both, think you might be right sachs, so will try ordinary jelly with less water.
I bought some vegetarian jelly chrystals (sp?) from the health food shop .they are yummy and worked well in a flan.
Maybe try mixing arrowroot powder with a little water and some fruit juice and bringing to the boil. Directions should be on box/packet

Thanks all for your help I took the ' onlyone's' advice and it turned out perfect, had to keep checking its setting consistency but caught it just right, and believe it was even tastier than quick jel, using fresh strawberries so didn't have fruit juice. But will probably never buy quick jel again.
