well,i wasn't prescribed a blood test but,i think my thyroid is overactive.and i am not on any medication but, i've been eating a lot of fish lately and it is helping.what i wanna know is once my thyroid is gone, is it gonna come back again?
blackeyed,i had an over active thyroid for 6 years, had medication but disappeared after i fell pregnant, nearly 30 years later i still have name on thyroid register and get blood tests every year,IF' my thyroid returns ,and it can,it will come back opposite to what it was before, so i would then be underactive, and need medication again
maybe i was diagnosed wrong then.i just got a swollen up area behind my chin, the doctor said it was thyroid-didnt say anything about underactive or overactive-i started taking iodine rich food and since then it has been disappearing.
p.s; thanks a lot for your answers.
OMG SERIOUSLY! Blackeyed the thyroid gland is a gland that sits in our lower throat and controls (amongst other things) metabolism. I have an unusaully large Thyroid (lump in my lower throat) but, it causes me no problems. My husbands is underactive which makes him sluggish tired and prone to put on weight. He takes thyroxine every day which combats these symptoms. An over active thyroid make you alert, jumpy, anxious and lose weight and the treatment is a lot more complicated and can invlove radiotherapy. These are basic terms and you really need to ask your GP whats going on. Apart from extreme surgery, your thyroid is not going away!!!
