Jean , I have no idea about freezing, but I can tell you this with absolute honesty, when my aunt Edie died someone discovered her wedding cake from 54 years before. It was sat in a cake tin in a cupboard for all that time and was absolutely delicious. Apparently it just doesn't go off.
A portion of my wedding cake is now 3 years old and tastes better. So the cake lasts and lasts. Maybe it was all the alcohol my sister in law placed in it! :-)
Cake usually freezes perfectly Jean. If you can use a cake that has been at room temperature for years you should have no problem with one that has been frozen. unless it is full of Icicles of course, or has freezer burn. I have had cake in the freezer for over a year and it was perfect, even the icing.
