Last year there was a wasp nest in the loft of the house where I live. I got stung on 2 occasions, what is the likely hood of them coming back to re inhabit/ what ever the term is for them coming back again this year?

How can I prevent them ever returning?

Little chance! They start from scratch each year. The queen would have hibernated somewhere new.
Don't agree.they loved my last house and I had a nest or 3 in the loft almost every year. I really hate them,I'm scared of them and I even got stung once by a very large Queen in January while I was asleep in bed!. There are sprays you can get but I'm nervous of chemicals. The french spray their houses in the countryside apparently quite often but no-one seems to do it here. Luckily I have now moved and don't have a problem, touch wood.
Talk to an expert pest controller if it happens again.
Good luck
