It depends upon where you're going to (and possibly for how long).

"Nationals from UK , EU and USA travelling to Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba and Taba resorts ONLY, for a maximum of 14 DAYS, do not require a visa prior to travelling as a free entry permission stamp will be granted upon arrival. If you intend to travel outside of the above mentioned areas you MUST obtain a Visa".
just in addition to what Buenchico says I went on holiday to Sharm el Sheik - we were advised if not planning going anywhere out of Sharm then no Visa needed but as we were travelling to Mount Siani and also a trip to Cairo we had to have it. We were advised that if for example we felt we did not need it then decided to go on a trip or out of Sharm then a real difficulty to get it. it was not very expensive and you get it at the airport. There were quite long queues for the Visa. I am not sure how you intend to travel from the airport to your resort but the chances are if you are travelling with others the majority of them will be getting Visa's so you will have to wait anyway. Enjoy your holiday!
