computer screen is dark

just turned comp on and my screen is very dim,i can see my web page,i have pressed the screen buttons on my laptop to brighten or dim the screen but to no avail can any one help please.i have a dell 1525 inspiron

Have you got a key with two screens on it somewhere? Probably along the top row.
Press it, if that doesn't work, press it whilst holding down the FN key.

I haven't got a dell to hand
however - it will be something on these lines

go to control panel - look at display properties
settings | advanced
there will be a tab for your graphics card - maybe colour management - there will (or should) be controls for
gamma, brightness and contrast

or the graphics card could have it's own icon

dell usually also have a settings centre - it could also be in the start menu dell tools folder
and could even be part of the control panel power management settings.

basically you need to have a bit of a poke round
but it's one of the display options.

When you say dark, just how dark do you mean?

if it's really really dark it may be the backlight in the display gone (or the inverter that runs the light)

if it's just a little dark then it probably is a setting somewhere, but could still be the inverter.

Just press Function key and dab at brightness a few times.
