Tompson digi box
2 Answers
I have a Thompson digi box which is now out of guarantee. It often freezes up and switching it off for a few minutes usually solves the problem. Unfortunately it has frozen again but this time I can't get it to come back on. If anyone has any suggestions as to what I could try to get it up and running again, I'd be very grateful. Thanks in advance.

Take a look at the above link as it is possible that your Freeview box is giving up the Ghost. Some Digi Boxes manufactured before 2005 containing a Chip manufactured by Setpal are unable to cope with the increase in Freeview Channels coming on air. On the other hand your Freeview Box could be overheating resulting in 'Freezing'. This could come about by you leaving it 'ON' 24 Hrs a Day rather than switching it to 'Standby' when not in use. Let the unit cool down and see if it works then followed by a Full Scan.

murnmac,
is this of any help?

The box is failing to come out of standby mode, showing a constant amber light on the front panel.
This fault is due to a broadcast issue which has led to a corrupt file being loaded onto the hard disk.
Try switching your box off at the wall & leave for 20 secs.
If this does not work, please try the following procedure.
This will unfortunately cause recordings in your programme library to be LOST.
The procedure needs to be completed without gaps or delays in order to work so please familiarise yourself with identifying the location of the power lead socket on the rear of the box (or the mains socket/plug if it is easier to get to), the box front panel buttons & the order they have to be pressed in the procedure.
The procedure is as follows:-
1. Disconnect the power supply from the unit by removing the power cable from the back of the box.
2. Wait 20 secs & then put the power cable back in & simultaneously pressing the 'standby/power button repeatedly in & out on the front panel of the box.
3. Release the standby button as soon as you see the first light flash on the front of your box & then immediately press the arrow buttons on the front panel quickly & in the following sequence: Up, Down, Left, Right.
4. Your box should then show the amber light with the green light flashing until the disk re-format has been completed which will take around 60 secs. The box should return to a solid red light (standby) allowing you to then turn the box to ON (green lamp on). If after 2 minutes your box still does not display a solid red light, repeat steps 1-4.
5. Now scan for Channels to restore your TV channels using the remote control - Menu, Set-up (4), then Scan for Channels (1) and then the Green button to start the scan.
