I just wondered what other peoples thoughts were on this author?

I know people rave about her but I've tried to read a couple of her book and I just can't be doing with her. Wish I could give a more intellectual reason but there it is - I just don't like her style.
Same with Lionel Shriver - We need to talk about Kevin - people talk about these her too as being a brilliant author and reflecting how people think these days but my brain must be wired differently from everybody elses because I just kept thinking ' oh, get over yourself'.

My Sister�s Keeper
Plain Truth
Vanishing Act
Keep the Faith
19 minutes

And to be honest the best ones were My Sister�s Keeper and Plain Truth � I felt the others were a bit try hard and all follow the same pattern after a while � family shock, court case, �twist� resolution in the last few pages.

I enjoy her prose, but think she now needs to try a different style of writing.

i've read the tenth circle , 19 minutes, and the pact, and to be honest i don't see what all the fuss is about. I agree with yinyang - her books aren't badly written, but they're not my style.
It could just be that her books are made to appeal to people who're a bit older than me. They all seem to be about people at least ten years older than i am who have teenage kids, and i just can't connect with the characters at all.

I was going to say what pingping said - I find that they are very "samey". I liked My Sisters Keeper but I found some of the others quite boring and gave up after a while

I have to admit that I went through a complete fixation on her work but now feel all picoulted out. V disappointed in last book " Handle with Care" saw it all coming a mile away. Bit formulated for me now.

My Sister's keeper is her best.
I have read 19 minutes, change of heart and a few others. I like her, but she can be wordy. I take her in small doses. She can be heavy at times.

I've read one or two of her books. She can certainly write wel, and she's original, but ... she just doesn't inspire me the way some writers do.

Hello All,

Thanks for your comments. I've read three of her books and frankly, I'd like to sue her for false advertising to say the very least.

I've read two because the nice lady up the hall keeps giving to me and the first one because I was interested in the reviews and I I find her a bit of an emotional leech in the way she writes.... The writing style and story I find not much better than the sort of thing you'd get in a Chat magazine really, this is fine (Chats quite entertaining) but I just wondered how her reviews were so amazing as the work really didn't live up to expectation in my opinion.

That said, I've not read My Sisters Keeper so perhaps my criticisms of her are quite harsh, I just wondered if it was just me that didn't really understand all the praise she's had, I really don't think it's deserved at all.

I've read a couple of her books and was disappointed.....I think I was influenced by her being the "in" writer at that time. I also have to own up to detesting Captain Corelli's Mandolin.........and don't get me started on the Da Vinci Code.......these were also "must reads"......

I read 'Plain Truth', and knew what the 'twist' was almost as soon as the central incident had occured. Reading the build up to the denoument was rather like munching my way through a roll of loft insulation.

I was relieved when I had finished the darned thing.....

No more Jodi Picoult for me :o)
