how would one go about becoming a photographer for an estate agent, the people who take photos of the outside and interior of properties for sale? Is this an actual job title or does it come part of being an estate agent? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, when i sold my house, the agent who came round to value also took the pictures on a digital camera, in fact they all took one in case we went with them

I think it depends on the estate agency. Smaller more local agencies probably have the estate agent's staff do the photos. Maybe larger more exclusive agencies employ professional photograhers. Why don't you make enquiries at your local agency?

Estate agents mostly use a professional photographer only for glossy brochures on expensive properties. It would not be possible to make a living taking the day to day photos for them because with today's digital technology they can so easily do it themselves to quite a high standard.

thanks for your answers, I hadn't thought of just the staff doing the photos. hehe oh well

I think some estate agents who sell million pound +++ houses (e.g. Knight Frank & Rutley) use professional photographers and actually produce glossy brochures of the houses. For that, I think you just have to be a photographer willing to take that kind of work!

If you just mean your High Street EA then it is likely that the valuation surveyor will take the photographs as he/she is going around the property.  As mentioned above, the larger firms with larger portfolio will most likely appoint photographers who will print glossy brochures and adverts for magazines etc.  FPD Savilles, CB Richard Ellis, Foxtons to name but a few.

Check out the Estates Gazette (magazine) for details and examples.

check out the Foxtons website...they're always looking for photographers and they give you a car aswell!

Hi,

I used to work for Foxtons as a property negotiator. They periodically look for protographers, who take exterior & interior photos, you get a decent salery plus a car, camera & bonuses, as well as good training. This couls be a good way to get started.
