Weight loss will probably be quite dramatic and fast, so your partner will possibly be left with lots of loose skin, which in turn will make them feel bad about their appearance.
Alot of patients find the psychological effects of not being able to eat as much as they used to quite traumatic and may find this is the hardest thing to come to terms with. Wife had gastricbypass 2 years ago after banding failed - twice. Has not looked back and lost about 14 stone since op. After initial time of VERY small portions and progressing to kids meals can now eat a 'small' adult portion.
Be aware that your partner will have to check a) if they need protein at every meal and b) vitamin B12 injections every 3 months as stomach cannot produce enough from reduced size.
I would not personally like the operation - even though I probably would benefit - but I do admire her for sticking with it. Also consider possibility of further plastic surgery to reduce loose skin etc
