Can you distract him by having more attractive objects to nick.
Otherwise you can buy stuff that deters them but it probably works out more expensive than new socks.
Or wait till he graduates to your partners new shoes.

""Its a rare dog whos never pilfered a sock from his owners, nor been caught fleeing the dirty laundry basket clutching a pair of panties in his mouth. But why exactly do dogs steal dirty laundry? The answer is simple: The more of an owners scent is absorbed by an item, the more desirable it becomes to dogs. If that item also happens to be soft and fun to chew, its nigh-irresistible."

We used to have a Cocker Spaniel who was very fond of grabbing socks, underwear etc in his little gob and, if we weren't careful when anyone came to visit they'd be greeted by the sight of him standing there, bum and tail wagging ten to the dozen, and a pair of unwashed kecks being offered as a welcoming gift!
Ever so slightly embarrassing on the odd occasion it happened, but everyone saw the funny side!
