Bamboo removal/taming

I have some black stemmed bamboo in my front garden that's growing like mad and cropping up everywhere, especially when I try to cut it back. I don't want to kill it off. How do I stop it spreading?

Chop off pieces at the root and sell them. Mine is also thuggish but I paid an absolute fortune for it. I'm sure charities would be glad of plant donations if you don't want to sell it yourself. Keep on chopping. It is nice though.

either just trim off the unwanted shoots every yr like i do or sink some paving slabs into the ground all around it to create a tub to conain it
