When I was 16 I went to work in a good restaurant (washing dishes). One day I asked the chef how you get to be a chef? He said "Look around here there is butcher, a baker, a fry cook, a salad maker, a dessert maker lots of people when you can do what they do, then they call you a chef." I liked the answer because it meant that he could fill in for anyone, he could tell if they were doing a good job and he got to run the place as he wished (even though he was not the owner).
If you work for yourself, try to have all the varied skills you can master. If you can get good at doing a web site, at using a camera and at doing any special things that help your undertaking, then it is cheaper, faster and you tend to get what you want and need. In any case, you normally have to ask for help for some things. If you work for yourself, it is good to have an open mind and be willing to learn.
Working for someone else can be tough, but if you are on your own, you tend to put in a lot more time.
