newborn heart murmur and development

my 6 WEEK OLD has been digonosed with a SYSTOLIC HEART MURMUR and has been losing weight she is only 8Ib 9 and has dipped of her growth chart !! can anyone give me anymore advice or info ??

Also can't give any advice but wanted to wish you luck and suggest you get in touch with the british heart foundation, they maybe able to offer some advice.

Murmurs don't always mean that there is a heart problem but can be an indication of a defect. I was diagnosed with holes in the heart (multiple ventricular septal deformities) at 12 weeks old, after the docs heard a murmur. I too had not put on weight and dropped down the centile chart, but after a couple of operations to correct the problems, I'm now a healthy 24 year old with a baby of my own - so even if your little one has a heart problem, don't lose hope. If they could fix me back in the eighties imagine what they can do now!!

what has the doctor advised? If you have not already mentioned it you should ask him as soon as possible.

Systolic murmurs in neonates are quite often innocent.

It is unlikely that the dip in her weight is anything to dow with her murmur.

If she is feeding well, not vomiting and has a good colour....don't worry.

Her GP will give better advice.

I've had a heart murmer from birth. I'm absolutely fine.

But do consult with your GP.
