I recently received approximately 6 miss calls from a private number on my mobile phone. I didn't answer the calls because i was operating a motor vehicle at the time and didn't posses a hands free equipment. Approximately 5 minutes after the calls i got a text which i checked after arriving at my destination. The text stated the following "It is the Police calling you. Either answer or call PC (name provided) on (landline phone number provided). Failure to contact will result in your arrest at your home address". Now, let me make it abundantly clear that i absolutely have no problems contacting the Police as i genuinely have no idea what it could be in relation to, and to be honest, i am curious. However, i did not appreciate the latter tone of the text and therefore i am now apprehensive to return the call. Based on the text, it would appear that the only thing that will prevent my arrest is a simple phone call. My question is therefore, can the Police arrest you for not returning a call? If i had committed an offence that merits my arrest, should that be determined by the return of a phone call? It all sounds too bizarre and i'm beginning to think that it could possibly be, someone playing a game. Please, any advice would be appreciated.

The police can't arrest you for not returning a call. They have to have grounds. If they had those grounds they would nick you anyway. Could be scare tactics - or could be they simply have the wrong number!!!!

I would suggest you present yourself at a police station and show them the text. if they suspect you of an offence and want to speak to you, failure to comply could result in your arrest.

Personally i would've phoned them when you was finally stationary to find out what was going on,despite their tone,unless..........................you have something to hide?

This must be a wind up by someone. Just ask yourself this:

"How could the Police know my mobile number?"

Unless you've given them your number, there's no way they could know it, is there? The only other thing I could think of is if someone else did? But why?

I guess (and hope) it was just a joke from a "questionable" friend. However, nothing in this currently un-democratic police state would surprise me!
If you really want to check.
Your mobile phone has given the number of who called. So, phone back from a call box (land line) and say your happy to discuss it with an officer at your local police station and that you have saved the previous text messages and are recording this conversation.
If they say that's not possible then just say "**** OFF" and "SEE YOU IN COURT". A prosecution would be would be a defence lawyers dream come true, not to mention Sky News!

lol no way would the police send you a text saying 'it is the police calling' lol and they can arrest you anywhere they like, it doesn't have to be your home address. what was the phine number? I have free landline calls i'll ring it for you

Having properly reviewed the circumstances, I am going to completely disgard it as it appears to be of no significance. I am almost certain that if it was contrast, the Police would've taken a different approach. It could possibly be a prank of some sort or, it could actually require my urgent undivided attention, either way, I'm sure time will reveal it's true intended nature.
