Vauxhall Astra Radio Display

I'm thinking of replacing my standard radio in my Mk4 (T plate) Astra. The Car Audio guys say if I want to keep my display at the top middle of my centre console I need to buy a cable and connect my new radio. My question is, if I don't link my new radio, what will the display show, if anything?

Nothing, other than the date and time depending if it's the same age astra that I'm thinking of. (around a T plate!?)
