I actually preferred the 2 Universal parks - Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure than WDW.

sorry should have said that as well....or the Universal parks

Have been there twice and enjoyed it all so very much.  Think yes Universal has the edge.

One of the best places we went to was when we were in Disney MGM Studios, and had lunch in the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant. It was brilliant!! Its like you're sitting in a drive in movie cos the tables are cars, and theres a big screen in front of you showing snippets of old sci-fi movies! Its wicked!! x

Agree with Andy you must do Seaworld and see the Shamu display, be warned that in about the first 5-10 rows people get very wet but it is lots of fun. Also I loved seeing the Tree of Life in the Animal Kingdom park, not everyone's cup of tea, but I thought it was beautiful.
EPCOT is great, World Showcase is fantastic.

Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon are great water parks.

Go to MGM and ride Aerosmith rollercoster and Twighlight Zone Tower of Terror!

DO NOT miss out on the 2 parks at Universal, ride The Hulk believe me its an experience!!

The parks advice so far is spot on. But make sure you also take in Wet 'n Wild - a blast on a hot day.

Thanks everyone you have all got me very excited, I want to be there NOW! Please can you keep some more ideas coming. ~I have got 4 weeks there!

If you've got 4 weeks you should also plan two trips outside of Orlando.

First is to Busch Gardens (Tampa) which has much better thrill rides than anything in Orlando.

Second is to the Space Centre at Cape Canaveral.

BIRD i agree, the sci fi diner is excellent, as is  the 50s diner in Disney studios.  its like being in a living room, you get put in the corner if you dont eat your greens and get a sticker if you finish everything on your plate!

Also dont miss Belz, Florida Mall and the Mercado for bargains!

Quite often there is a shuttle launch from the space centre, find out when you get there if there is one, it is well worth seeing!

For a good feed, dont miss out Wild Jacks steakhouse

At MGM dinner at 50s Prime Time Diner.  In Magic Kingdom lunch or dinner in Cinderellas Castle.  In MGM Rock and Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror.  In Universal Mummy Returns, Ghostbuster and Blues Brothers.  In Islands of Adventure the Duelling Dragons. For the kids and adults Cat in the Hat Ride.  International Drive - The Titanic Experience and for the best food The Olive Garden on International Drive I cannot say enough good things about it.  Golden Corral for breakfast - buffet place - have an omelette.  Busch Gardens and Kennedy are brilliant too.  Do not miss the Florida Mall.  The best roller coaster in Orlando is the Kraken in Sea World.  If in Sea World do not miss the pre show at Clyde and Seamore Sealion Show - be there at least 15 minutes in advance.  As you can see I love Florida.  Will be there in October.

Yes, you really must go to Seaworld and see the whales, but I strongly recommend that you DO sit in the front rows and get soaked.

Disney's Animal Kingdom!! This would have to be my TOP recommendation to you butterfly76...as someone else mentioned, there is the Tree of Life (great picture spot)...But as an animal-lover, the whole park took my breath away! And, if you are open to investing some extra $$ and time into it; I highly recommend the Animal Kingdom Backstage Safari!

Look into it at this link...it's an entire day of VIP treatment and an amazing, eye-opening experience that is worth the money...or at least it was for me!   :0)
