Lost Property...

I don't know if I've posted this in the right place.

Last month I went to a clothes shop and left my keys in the changing room. I called the shop and they said they had the keys and I could call in and collect them. When I went to collect them they said they had lost them after finding them in the changing room.

Can I complain about this, or is it my own fault for leaving them in the changing room anyway?

They should have put them in a safe place, they must have a lost property box or something. I woul try and complaint, but you lost them in the firat place. Was it a big clothes shop?

Just say they werent keys and it was your handbag or something valuable, if they said they found it and lost it again would you complaint??

Like my friend she lost her daughter in a shop one time and shop werent that helpful, did you think she complaint? She nearly killed the shop assistant.

Yeah, it was GAP, that's quite a large clothes shop. I want to write a complaint letter, but do you think they'll just write back saying you shouldn't have lost them in the first place. But surely two wrongs don't make a right?

They certainly won't place the blame back on you, that would be very unprofessional... If the keys are lost, they are lost and there's not much anyone can do about that. You should still write a letter, they may send you gift vouchers, it's worth a try.

I would complain if you are sure it was your keys they had found.  Did you leave your name and do you have a store card account.  What if someone managed to find out your address from this and then took the keys to get into your house or take your car (whatever the keys were for).  You may now wnat to change your locks which could cost a fortune.

I don't think that you have a leg to stand on.  The key to the situation is, 'are they any different from you in losing the keys?'   If you exercised sufficient care then you wouldn't have lost them, did they exercise sufficient care? Who knows, they're only human.....

That's what I was thinking Tim. I won't bother complaining, I'll just learn from it and try not to make that mistake again.

I agree - personally I wouldn't complain if this had happened to me. I'd think it was my fault for losing the keys in the first place. There is a valid point made though about someone having them and having access to your address details.

In saying that, I'd still put something in writing in the vain hope that I got gift vouchers!

Men rarely complaint anyway unless is a big issue.
