Comfort eating
4 Answers
Been noticing lately that I have been eating a lot more than normal, and don't seem to able to stop, when I try not to it I become over emotional, irritable, unhappy and anxious. Naturally the more I feel I want to eat the worse food it is and as a result have put on weight which is causing me to feel lethargic. I can't seem to spur myself on to get out of this rut. Any advice from anyone?

Are you hungry when you reach for the comfort food and are satiated by eating it? Or are you replacing the thoughts of 'something' or 'someone' i.e. Eating as a distractionary measure to avoid thinking of something that may be emotionally painfull?
Just a thought.

May sounds like a silly idea, but wih this hot weather, it could be that you are more dehydrated than usual.
The body often mistakes thirst for hunger, so the feeling hungry, could be your body saying it is thirsty. Then because you are eating instead of drinking, you stay thirsty, which your body reads as still hungry.
Irritability, tiredness and lack of concentration are very very common symptoms of dehydration. I suffer from this alot when i dont drink enough.
Next time you are feeling hungry, or before a meal, have a couple of glasses of water about 15/20 minutes before you actually eat. It should help you want to eat less at meal times, and it can also make thirst related snack attacks disappear.
Hope you feel top form soon.

I used to do this until I joined slimming world.
The plan is fantastic and you really can eat loads and make comfort food recipes.
I have stayed within my target for months as well, cos if I have a bad few days whatever, I just keep going to group and get back on it. There is no humiliation at all just support x
