I recently recieved a bill from 407 ETR and called them to see why they billed me as I had not been on the highway during the time the bill stated. It turns out that the plate they billed is on a trailer that I sold two years ago. I went to the Police and fill out a decloration then went to MTO and had the plate removed from my file and placed a sold tag on the trailer, call the ETR back and they still insist that I pay the bill. My question is do they take shots of the front of the vehicles as the truck or car pulling the trailer is responsible for the bill and also could they be billing both plates for the same trip as they would have two different owners? I feel yes I should not have trusted the person who bought my travel trailer but don't feel responsible either for the bill because some guy did not tranfer the ownership so they would not have to pay the tax. This is not a lot of money and it won't happen again as I have cancelled the plate.
Please advise. Thanks. John

Don't understand.

Here it's illegal for the plate on the trailer to be different to that on the towing vehicle. They MUST match.

It's also an offence not to advise the authorities when to transfer a vehicle.

So on that basis you are done.

However things may be different in whatever weird part of the world you come from.
I take it you are American, try answerbag.com as this site is British.

Sorry, did not realize it is a British site; I am British but live in Canada eh! It is a bit wierd here I must say, you don't have to report the sale of the vehicle or trailer it is on the the person making the purchse and the plate for trailers go with the thing so you don't need to keep purchasing new ones each time it is sold. The toll highway I am upset with recieves 80,000 complaints a year for in acurate billing and treatment of customers in general it is the quickest way to navigate Canada's largest city.
Cheers! John
