Bereaved Goldfish

My son had 2 large goldfish (comets?) for the past 7 - 8 years. Over the weekend one has died. The other one looks miserable & lonely & is just resting on the bottom of the tank. We're not sure if we should get him company. We don't think they're diseased just reckon the other one died of old age. Any suggestions?

Not old age anyway. Given the right circumstances goldies can live for up to 30 years.
