Hit lampost

Hi
Can anyone help me - i knocked down a lamp post at the weekend - am waiting to find out costs / whether I am covered under third party insurance etc.
I was travelling at max 25mph and misjudged a sharp turn in the road - police are not taking any action.
Does anyone know how much the costs for knocking over a lamp post will be?

You would not need to pay for the lamppost as this would be covered under your insurance regardless of whether you are third party only or fully comp. The council who own the lamppost would be the third party. You will just lose some no claims bonus.

I hit one at over 100 and it was still standing (admittedly not very straight though)

Anyhow, as above said your insurance will pay for it, but if your interested it cost �800 to replace the one I hit

Don't laugh you two, it happens. It happened to me Christmas day back in the nineties. If anything I was going slower cos I was turning a corner, but I hit a broken kerb, lost it, and knocked down a lamp post.

Police were marvellous - after they breathalysed me and found me clear, they booked it down as skidding on ice.

At the risk of sounding obvious, have you not considered contacting the council whose area the lamp post's in?
Should imagine they could tell you?

�800 may be a bit underestimated dependent on the type of lamppost - I've seen then replaced for u pto �2500 when we get invoices in.

Most councils will invoice the insurer regardless

Hi,
Just wondered if you had found out through your insurance yet what was happening as my partner has had the same accident today although he drives a HGV 2 lorry and mis- judged reversing which took out a lamp post by accident. He is working for an agency so would the agencies insurance have to cover this cost or would we?
