I read on an 'unusual facts' website that Winston Churchill was born in a ladies toilet during a dance. Is this true, and where can I find the proof?

Winston Churchill was born in a bed at Blenheim Palace. At least that's what the tour guide told us!

When asked to confirm or deny the various tales surrounding his specific birthplace, Churchill replied: "Although present on that occasion, I have no clear recollection of the events leading up to it."

It would most certainly not have been a Ladies' "toilet", however...a Ladies' "room" perhaps, which - in Blenheim Palace - isn't the same thing at all! Rather it would be where the womenfolk retired from the bustle of whatever was going on around them.

Maybe it was the Baby Changing Room with jazzy Muzac, but no other mothers came along to change their babies and the rest, as they say, is history.
