Surgery: removal of metalwork

Hello, I am having surgery on wednesday to remove metalwork from my ankle which I had put in to fix a bad break in december. I was just curious if I would be allowed to keep the said metalwork once it is removed? I just think it has caused me such much pain and such a bloody slow recovery that a memento (thats not wacking great scars) would be nice.

Why not....in the anaesthetic room ask the theatre staff if you could have the metal plate.

Unless the NHS has really gone down the pan, they would not be using it again..........LOL

Many years ago, my husband had both legs badly broken. In one he had a pin inserted in the femur and a plate in the lower leg. He had both removed eventually, and like you, we thought it would be nice to have them mounted as a momento. A friend of a friend did it for us, but made the base in the shape of a coffin. Fortunately, we saw the funny side of it.

Here in NZ, when I went in to have my metalwork removed from my ankle, I never thought about keeping it.

But when I got back to my hospital room - it was there in a plastic bag for me.

I was surprised how much there was!

They said no - boooo to them Ive been babysitting that stuff for the last 7 bloody months hehehehe... Oh well, I tried, shame though would have liked to have at least seen it.

If the surgeon has a scrap box for his beer money, like plumbers do then you won't get a look in, Titanium is good to weigh in....Lol
