contact lenses

i wear specs at the moment, but i'm thinking of trying out contacts. where's the best place on the high street to get them? roughly how much do they cost? disposables or monthlies? any other comments on the subject would be great, thanks

I've been wearing contacts for about 2 years now.  I prefer them the glasses.  I get mine on direct debit from Specsavers, I have them delivered and I pay �15 for 20 pairs.  But I find that I wear them every day and need to up my amount to 30 which is �18... I think.

When I first went to get contacts, specsavers gave me a week free trial.  I found Specsavers to be very helpful...especially teaching me how to take them in and out... not the easiest thing in the world at first.

Yeah Specsavers are cheap. I get monthly contact lenses for �12.

thanks, i'm with specsavers at the moment anyway. do you recommend monthlies or disposables? i wouldn't be wearing them every day since my specs do suit me. since i'm under 18 (for another couple of days) and still in full-time education d'you think they'd still charge full amount for contacts? also, do you often have issues with smoky atmospheres? like in clubs & bars & things

i started in december on monthly disposables, but in february after getting used to them i statred wearing the night and day ones, i put them in at the beginning of the month and leave them, i take them out once a fortnight as advised.

its great to wake up and be able to see!! and the bonus is they were quite expensive to start but are now just �22 for the 3 pairs, each lasting a month

I started with daily ones at about �14 per month for 10 pairs from Dolland & A - I got so used to them that I gave up on glasses altoghether and now wear contacts all the time.  I might switch to Specsavers though, those night and day ones sound good!

I use Proclears as Day&Nights made my eyelids swell.  Take the advice of the optician - that's my advice!!  Most people start on dailies and then move on to monthlies once they'd got used to it. 

If I'm going clubbing (or working a long shift) I try to avoid wearing my lenses in the day time.  That way my lenses won't dry out during the evening.  Remember when you're driving to ALWAYS have your glasses with you.  If you get something in your eye and you have to take the lens out, you don't want to be stranded and have to call parents to rescue you! (I'm so paranoid about that myself!!!)

Anyway, I'd say chat to your optician about the options.  Specsavers have been good with me.  And that reminds me - I need to go in there this week and collect my order.  :-)

i have worn contacts for 8 years and have always been more than satisfied with specsavers. i started off on monthlies and now wear the continuous ones (�18 per month) and they are FANTASTIC, just being able to wake up and see that clock without fumbling for glasses is a god send!!

I recommend the monthly ones if you choose to wear your glasses more. I wear my contacts mostly at the weekends and some evenings so �12 a month is ideal I have no problems in smoky areas at all with contacts but I do when I wear my glasses!

If you arent going to wear them everyday,  i would recommend the dailies.  There's no point in paying for a monthly lens if you're only going to wear them at weekends.

thanks for all your answers, i'm definitely going to check out specsavers for them
