half life 2 registration help!

i brought half life 2 on play.com (play & trade) and waited a week for delivery, i install the game, then clicked "register" on Steam, and it sed "that registration key is already in use by another user" or summet like that, so bassically ive been screwed over, is there any way of installing this game without steam or whatever will make it work?

I had loads of probe when I bought Half Life 2, all to do with Steam. Firstly did you buy a new and not used copy? ( I presume so being Play.com). Next contact Steam, they really helped me but took a while (needed proof or purchase). Else check out the problems on Steam or Valve forum or contact Play and state your problem. Will subscribe to thread to see how you get on. Once you are there the game is fab, like all previous Half Lifes. Good luck!

That was meant to say problems not probe. Fingers acting faster then the brain. Also when entering the code its real easy to get it wrong i.e. 8 instead of B, 0 instead of O etc. Not doubting you did but best mention it b4 sum smarty chops mentions it if they read the thread. Cheers

You can contact Steam and with proof of purchase they can reset it, but sometimes easier just to get a new copy. As stated if you have played half-life b4, or even if you have not, its a great FPS game.

they dont eccept used software, gutted.

Hopefully you will get a refund. Software like this shudnt be sold used unless u can get to play it. Wish I cud offer more advice. Hope you get the game new, at a bargain price (mine was from Game, cheaper than the net), and enjoy when it you do.
