Nirvana -Nevermind

U2 - The Joshua Tree

The Clash - The Clash

The Smiths - The Smiths

Oasis - What's the Story (Morning Glory)

The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds

Simon and Garfunkel - Bridge over Troubled Water

Not famous perhaps but "Shout Out the Lights" by Richard and Linda Thompson was one of the best albums of the early 80s.

Dark side of the moon - Pink Floyd

Brothers in Arms - Dire Straits

Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells

Jean-Michel Jarre - Oxygene

Iron Maiden - Number Of The Beast

If we're  talking definitive:

Rumours - Fleetwood Mac
Famoue Blue Raincoat - Jennifer Warnes
Talking Book - Stevie Wonder
Transformer - Lou Reed
Bat Out of Hell - Meat Loaf
Waking Hours - Del Amitri
Brothers in Arms has to be there.....

err OK Computer!.  Officially Number 1 Album album of all time! (as voted for by channel 4 viewers...) anyway take nothing away from it, it is the best album ever.

Also Blood on the Tracks, Automatic for the People, Are You Experienced are exceptional; and I totally agree with Nevermind, Brothers in arms, Dark side of the moon and the joshua tree.

btw quite alot of hardcore beatles fans rate 'Rubber Soul' above Sgt. Pepper as best Beatles album of all time, though it isnt the most famous among your average beatle fan and so is often overlooked in some album polls.

Anything by the Beatles, all their albums are great.  Also, Pink Floyds 'Dark Side Of the Moon' and 'The Wall'. The Elvis album's 'Elvis is back' and 'Elvis-That's the way it is' are Fantastic.

Parklife by Blur. Kick by INXS. Back in Black by AC/DC.

Slightly topical, but it's certainly legendary:

Totally agree with the majority of Albums mentioned and Micky J should be included as a fantastic groundbreaking album that has and will stand the test of time.

How about something from the Dance world such as:-

DJ Shadow - Entroducing and

Leftfield - Leftisim,   both great i think and very influential.

David Bowie - Aladdin Sane, Santana - Abraxus

The Doors - LA Woman, Cream - Wheels of Fire, Moody Blues - Every Good Boy Deserves Favour, Hawkwind - Silver Machine, The Who - Live at Leeds

Supertramp - Breakfast in America

Just to mention a few blasts from the past.
