Beauvais to Versailles

Thinking about Ryanair to Beauvais. Would it be sensible to consider hiring a car to get to Versailles or not? Would public transport be easier?

I am a bit confused(not for the first time).
According to the AA Route Planner, Beauvais(Nr Limoges?) is approx 242 miles from Versailles.
So I think that might rule out Public Transport,but of course car hire would probably be preferable?
Unless of course there is a train service (Chris where are you?) Limoges(or Beauvais) to Versailles.I get the feeling that if there is you might have to go into Paris,and then out again to Versailles on a suburban train.

Ryanair no longer operates to Paris Beauvais from any UK airport, except Glasgow. So, unless you're travelling from there (or from a non-UK airport, such as Dublin) your question is rather academic anyway ;-)

Getting from Beauvais to Versailles by public transport is fairly easy. The bus service takes 1 hour 15 minutes to reach Porte Maillot. The fare is �13 each way. You can check the times of the buses here:

Porte Maillot is on RER Line C. Southbound trains run towards Versailles - Rive Gauche station (at the end of Line C), but you'd probably need to change trains at Champ de Mars Tour Eiffel. (RER services are swift and frequent).

ViaMichelin gives the distance from Beauvais to Versaille as 95km, with the journey taking about 1� hours, but you'd almost certainly encounter some heavy traffic along the route.

Thanx boys, yes, will be going from Prestwick. Thought car would keep us clear of the city & offer more rural options for overnight accommodation, with Giverny an option....any other ideas? All these hyperlinks will be useful, thanks. Bournemouth was fab last week Chris!!

This a wonderful Chateau,and certainly NOT a second to Versailles.In fact it was the inspiration for Versailles.
Judging by the map it should be accessible by car.

I can tell you a funny story about confusing towns. We went on holiday to Australia. I booked a hotel in Melbourne. When we got there I asked at the airport how to get to hotel such and such and they looked at me blankly and said there wasnt one there. It turned out I had booked Melbourne in the USA. I didnt even know there was a Melbourne there. The airport staff rallied round and quickly found us a very suitable and good hotel!
