Fisher (England) one stroke behind the leader, says that he will pull out on the last day of the Open at Turnberry, if his wife gives birth to their first child in order to be at the birth with her. Comments please........................men as well.

I wonder if he has considered the scenario where he is walking down the last fairway, in the lead, when the phone rings. He runs off the course, flies to her side and misses the birth by a couple of minutes. Will his wife be happy that he just lost hundreds of thousands of pounds?I very much doubt it.

he would be a mug to walk away from this tournament when he is in contention, If I were his wife I would keeps schtum until it was all over

He gets to her and the labour is prolonged and that she needs a CSection.

Keep fathers away from the delivery and the Operating Theatre. Having a baby= midwives.......period.

She is NOT dying for Pete's sake, she is having a baby.

Her job is to have the baby and his is to make the money to keep the family.

Soldiers, doctors, ect, couldn't down tools and rush to the delivery, so why should professional golfers?

he has the choice , soldiers don't. He might have said this but is hoping it does not become a reality that way everyone thinks 'what a terrific guy'

He was asked this question yesterday and his answer was nothing if not pragmatic. He said that very few women give birth in just a few hours and he thinks that if he was that far into the last day he would have time to finish, collect the claret jug and fly to his wife's bedside with time to spare. I think he is quite wrong there and that is a typically male point of view. His wife thinks he should put the birth of his baby before all else - but I feel that it could cause a wedge to be driven between them if he was to lose the chance of winning the open because of the birth, or missing the birth of his first child because of the open. I wouldn't want to be in his shoes.

plus he is often away playing golf so has he thought about this .......................the baby might not be his .
