At long last government departments are recognising that not everyone is Christian / Hebrew / Muslim...

Pagan police officers are to be allowed take their 8 religious holidays and Pagan chaplains have been appointed. Great news for them , and for their colleagues they can cover for on their holidays.

Although I agree that if there is to be special dispensation for religious observance, then all religions should be treated equally, I wonder how far this observance could go? Will someone who claims to be a Jedi for example suddenly pop up and demand, say, Wednesdays off? I think it preferable that religion be kept out of the workplace altogether. Those who take a job that requires staffing every hour of every day of the year, but who feel they cannot work on particular days, should really look elsehwere for employment.

No I don't believe they should get 8 days off. From what I read last week being a Pagan is about Mother Nature...blah de blah. So why can't they pop outside on their lunch breaks to give there thanks. After all......Other faiths do not have to go to church to say a prayer.

I think you might be missing the point, ummmm. Other faiths are given their religious days off, so why shouldn't Pagans be treated equally?

I know that, ummmm, but since the article says It is down to individual forces to make reasonable adjustments to accommodate the religion or beliefs of individual officers, as far as operational requirements permit, I am talking about a point of principle. What's good for one is good for another - or isn't it?
