Not sure what you mean by "safe". Baby convicts are not dependant on their parents for food....just protection and if you have them in their own tank, you could, in theory, take the eggs out and hatch them without the parents there...i've done this many times with angel fish.

Are the convicts in a community tank ?....if so, as long as the babies are big enough not to get eaten, they should be fine.

Don't forget that Convicts will breed like mad and before long, you will have so many babies, you won't be able to get rid of them especially as the adults aren't the most peaceful fish on the planet !!!
