How do they work?

Thankyou all for your informative and entertaining replies! I have been on a diet and look rather well, thankyou but am going away for the weekend and will be making merry with lots of carbs and alcohol. After reading the more informative posts I think I shall just throw caution to the wind and not bother. I don't want to spend the weekend on the loo!
