I have recently taken up painting as a hobby and would like to produce line drawings from photos, so that I can copy the outlines onto canvas and then paint the portrait or whatever. I believe that there are programs that will give line drawings, can anyone suggest one I can download (for free if possible) Thanks

most graphics packages (this was paintshop pro) have this type of effect - and most have about the same success

You could change image into greyscale and then print it out onto a iron on transparency . Iron it on to your canvas and paint it as you like. They were designed for use on sweat shirts so will work on any form of cloth.
