Filtered Cafetiere -- French Press?

Good Morning Everybody,

Anyone know of a "cafetiere" or "French Press" that has a filter?

I love the coffee it makes, but hate the heavy sludge it leaves in the coffee cup, no matter how careful you are.

Reminds me of the 'Good Ole Days' when out in the field you made coffee by throwing a handful of grounds into a pot and put it on the fire to not-quite-come-to-the-boil. In those days you were very careful not to get the last cup or pour a cup after the company's clumsy guy.

Not the end of the world, but sure would make living just a little bit better

If the grounds are getting into your cup as 'sludge' as opposed to just a slightly cloudy bit at the bottom then you're using too fine a grind. The pre-ground coffee that says it is suitable for all coffee makers is a lie, you need a fair bit coarser for a cafitiere than you do for a filter machine.

What a keen observation and analysis of the problem.

While I may be willing to 'try' to prove your theory, I have to ask myself, "After all those years of searching and finding a coffee that I found consistently good tasting, am I prepared to give it up?"
