dropped broadband connection

When I get incoming phone calls I lose my broadband connection and have to re-connect.
I don't know if having an answering machine sharing this line could be the cause?.
Any help welcomed.

you have got an ADSL filter attached to every phone socket in your house firstly haven't you?

yes I have and it's not every time that i lose the connection,only most times

Swap the filters about and see if that solves the problem.

If it doesn't you may have to invest in some better quality filters, unsurprisingly the free filters supplied by most ISPs with the routers are rubbish.

I have just fitted a BT iPlate which has improved my connection enormously.
What is the BT i-Plate & how does it work?
The i-Plate (iPlate) is a filter for use on ADSL Broadband lines to improve the speed & stability of the connection. Since they're easy to install yourself, (see YouTube video below) there are no costly engineer visits required. When connected to the master socket, the iPlate filters the 'bell wire' which used to be needed to make our old-fashioned analogue telephones ring. However, with today's touch-tone phones, this bell wire is now redundant and its presence in a master socket actually causes digital interference on the ADSL line.

Please note that with an iPlate, you will still need to use micro filters.
