has anyone been to tunisia and what are their thoughts on it?

Hot, sunny, muslim country.  Hotel complexes are fine if you like that sort of thing, but if you venture into the markets or towns, just be aware that you will be pestered by shop owners left right and centre, particularly if you are female or have children with you, and you will have to respect the rules of a typical muslim country.

Is there anything specific that you need to know?

I've been, and travelled about a bit - I thought Tunisia was great, but as Octavius says, you will get pestered a lot.

I can still hear the voices shouting "Cheaper than Asda" ringing in my ears.....

The resorts are generally very nice, weather is beautiful, prices are low, 'lager louts' are few and far between, and there are plenty of day/overnight trips available should you so desire.

Ive been there, second worst holiday I ever had, the worst was morrocco. These people think that you should pay them simply because you are in their country.

Example, go in a coffee shop and order two coffees, there is no set fee but you will likely be asked for about �10, if you are prepared to stand there arguing for twenty minutes you should get them for �1

walk into any town or market and you WILL be plagued to death by aggressive kids asking for money, and shopkeepers who wont ever go away.

If on the other hand you are happy to spend your holiday in the hotel complex, then as Octavious points out its O.K. but why would you want to go all that way to sit in the grounds of a hotel?

Short answer avoid these countries like the plague.

No disagree totally with Kev100. I had a fabulous holiday in Tunisia. I went on the Sahara safari trip which was  2 day trip and it was fantastic. Lots of places visited on the way and everything was clockwork. I liked the food and the fish in restaurants is superb. You will get pestered to buy stuff in markets but so what. It happens in most countries, atleast this place is safe and they dont rob you. You dont have to buy it. You can look haggle and walk away. Its part of the experience. No it was a good holiday and the 2 hr safari on the camel in the sahara was great. The camel herders did not even wait to be tipped. They bought you back to the buses and walked away with their camels. You have to appreciate it when a poor camel herder walks away without asking for a tip.

totally agree, Dom Tuk. Beautiful country, great desert rides, historic mosques; visit the dug-out homes where Star Wars was filmed, good beaches... of course shopkeepers try to get you to buy things, that's their job. If you want to be totally ignored by shopkeepers, why not holiday in Boots?

I went on my own for a short break a couple of years ago  and as a female it was a bad mistake. (Mr Brik was too busy working for a holiday that year). I was physically molested when I went anywhere on my own (by the way I'm middle aged and as ugly as sin) and I had to tag onto a kindly group of pensioners to feel safe. The chambermaid put a fresh flower on my pillow each day and then progressed to putting petals in my bed. I found a couple of creepy crawlies amongst them so I asked her to stop doing it. Her response was to take my hand and tell me she loved me and wanted to kiss me. Argh! I do have to say the beaches were beautiful and I had enjoyed a couple of brilliant excursions but it is definitely NOT a holiday for a lone female.

if u go to tunisia there is a wildlife park called frigui park you must go here, its really excellent . you can see that the animals are all well cared for with excellent enclosures and its all plains around you as far as you can see. standing in there with all the animals looking onto plains you really feel like you are in north africa it really does feel like you are on a safari.also you can have a camel ride that only costs a couple of quid and they have donkey rides too which my son loved.
