no sound on laptop..?

hello all,
can anyone help please,
its probably/hopefully just a simple thing to sort, but ive lost the sound on my laptop!
theres no windows start up sound and no sound when i go into media player.
help!

you don't say which laptop (no one ever does these days)

is there an external volume controll on the case ... or is there a fn+f key combination

go to control panel - open sounds and audio - is the mute ticked
(do tick the icon in taskbar option also)

sorry, for not saying which laptop it is.. oops!
its an acer aspire 5735z, recently bought.
the sound was working fine yesterday, but now its not :o/
no, the mute tick isnt ticked and yes theres controls on the keyboard for adjusting the volume.

Do you have the volume icon?.Maybe to the bottom right?..It looks like a loudspeaker?....If you don't have it...just google "loss of volume icon"..and you'll get full instructions ;-)..I managed to fix our puter's loss of sound by doing that.

I hate being without music.........is there a touch dial on left with mute button - tap it if there is.
