I am retired too, and have travelled about on my bus pass.
I live in romford essex, and have travelled on buses and trains, to go as far as dunstable in bedfordshire!
Didnt cost us a penny -- brilliant.
We've also travelled while in dorset, to bourmouth, and have even crossed the swanage ferry!

if you're a Londoner you can get a freedom pass

Concessionary bus passes issued by English local authorities outside London are not valid on Tube, Tramlink, DLR, London Overground or National Rail Services.
I lifted the above from the Transport for London site. When I was in London last week I went to tourist info and picked up a wonderful map showing all bus routes and numbers. I bussed everywhere because I like to see things.
