Where to begin in photography

My father-in-law wants to get into photography or at least wants to know where he can make money out of selling his photo's , or even offer his services for weddings etc ( think his head is in the clouds with that one - he has no experience whatsoever)

Anybody got any ideas ?

For weddings.....put business cards in shops that sell wedding dresses etc, or florists. He needs to promote himself to get commissions.

Hope he has seen examples of wedding albums & videos to know what is expected.

He needs to get a portfolio together and this will probably mean him having to do some events free of charge.

There are many critics out there across the forums and it might be worth is while displaying some of his work on the photography forums to get some pointers and to tell him whether he has an "eye" for the job.

I would also suggest he try the local colleges to get on some courses to fine tune is skills.
