Mind, liberal that I may be, I fail to see why we give 'travellers' (or Roma or, colloquially and incorrectly, 'gypsies' ) who were born here any special treatment. If they choose to wander the country, why are taxpayers expected to provide them with sites to suit their chosen lifestyle (or culture, if you will)? Is it simply a recognition of their choice or is it, perchance, cynically and bizarrely, calculated as being a cheaper option than other ones?

Incidentally, are these people Roma or Romanians ? There is a difference, unless they happen to be Roma who have come here as Romanian citizens. Romania is part of the EU so Romanians have some, if not all, rights (i.e. there may be some EU countries with restrictions on their imigration) of other EU citizens who are here.

They made the excuse that the Romanians were stealing their jobs. That would indicate that they were contributing to the country rather than getting free NHS and benefits.
