ipod touch not coming on

my ipod touch has just stopped working, it won't turn on,
I then pluged it into my laptop and it recognises it as my ipod (but still can't turn it on) so I restored it, but it still doesn't turn on and now when my laptop does recognise it (for all of two minutes) it seems to be charging.
can anybody please help.

This might seem silly but has it got any charge in it? Sometime just charging it for an hour will bring it back to life.

yes it's been charging most of the day but to no avail
