Planters against house

We are looking to build some trough style planters, which will include seating, around our yard. It will be in a 'U' shape so along two sides of the house and down the yard wall. I have been told that we need to break up the concrete below the sections which will contain the soil for plants etc to allow for proper drainage and to make sure that we line them and have drainage holes. What I want to know is if we break up the concrete and water is draining into it will this affect the house walls, foundations in any way, will we get damp patches or rising damp? Any advice would be appreciated.

Why don't you put drainage holes in the troughs as well as the liners, and just let any excess water out onto the yard?
