Need to get our springer de-flead. What do you guys use without going to the vast expense of frontline. Are shampoos or flea collars any good ? Ta muchly
the only time we used a flea shampoo on our dog he had an allergic reaction to it...also it only kills the ones that are there. IMO frontline is a steal, if you have to deflea your house it will cost quite a bit more.
Usually they are one a month. However I personally would not use anything other than the Frontline spray, which is only available from the vet, therefore more effective and ultimately cheaper in the long run.
I've been battling to de-flea my cocker spaniel for a while. As previously mentioned the shampoos aren't very effective. When I dried my dog afterwards the fleas were jumping about on the towel!!!
It's worth attacking the fleas on several fronts, so I would also wash your dogs bedding at as high a temperature, as possible. And use a household flea spray.
The one time we have had a real flea infestation was my fault, I brought them into the house from another house :-(
We always frontline spray our boys because a bigger problerm than fleas here is ticks so the dogs were protected. I got a can of RIP Fleas (Genitrix) which treated our whole big four bedroom house and both cars (not basting just making clear how far one can goes lol). One treatment did the trick and (touching wood) we've had no trouble since.
