what are my rights for buying a used car, then it breaks 3 weeks later
hey, the car didnt come with any warranty, as it is a fairly old 1995 car, but still in fairly good condition, however the water pump has broke, just 3 weeks after i bought the car.
if i get onto trading standards, will they do something about it?
also does buying used car comes under the sale of goods act, seeming as it is not fit for its purpose, and obviously there must have been something wrong with the water pump when i bought it, as it does not just deteriorate in 3 weeks.
so im just asking what rights do i have in this situation?
thanks

Cars are much more reliable than they used to be even so, I owned my last car for over 12 years. It was rare not to have something fail during each year (and that, besides items needing fixing to get it through the MOT).
If I bough a 14 year old car, and the water pump failed within 3 weeks, I would consider myself unlucky, but nothing more. I would not expect to have any claim against the seller to fix it (unless I was given a specific warranty).
It might cost more than you paid for the car to have it fixed but that is the chance you take buying an old banger.
